Delightfully unexpected, sublimely beautiful, emotionally powerful.
This year we celebrate the 25th anniversary of concerts presented by the Australia Pro Arte/Melbourne Chamber Orchestra organisation. The spirit of MCO is epitomised in our 2016 season with great local musicians, meticulously curated programs and our joyous spirit of collegial music making.
The Season
In March, clarinettist David Griffith and harpist Melina van Leeuwen join MCO for Classical Visions, joining Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto and Symphony No 40 with French harp fantasies. In April, Rebecca Chan directs The Gypsy Palace, an MCO Virtuosi project inspired by Baroque gypsy melodies. Leading soprano Sara Macliver joins the orchestra in June to sing Bach arias in Bach: Spirit & Spectacle; and in August, New York-based pianist David Fung performs two Mozart piano concerto gems in Mozart’s Piano.
In October, MCO’s chamber ensemble, Australian Octet, presents the legendary Schubert Quintet, Dvorak’s Sextet and a new octet by Graeme Koehne. The season ends in November with The London Sketchbook, featuring recent Young Performers Award winner Grace Clifford in The Lark Ascending and Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor.
