Melbourne Chamber Orchestra’s Artistic Director, William Hennessy, has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in today’s Queen’s Birthday Honours.
In a career spanning five decades, including over a decade as MCO’s Artistic Director, William has made a rich and singular contribution to Australia’s musical life. From his work as founder and leader of the Australian String Quartet, frequent concerto soloist, advocate for fine new string music, mentor of Australian chamber music ensembles, leader of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and deputy leader/founder member of the ACO to his exceptional contribution to music education and his unwavering commitment to the careers of emerging artists, it’s hard to imagine string playing in Australia without our beloved “Bill.”
