Australian Octet is Melbourne Chamber Orchestra’s flagship chamber ensemble. Unique in Australia’s musical life, the Australian Octet is dedicated to performing music for up to eight instruments. The ensemble has performed repertoire including the chamber music of Bruch, Enescu, Brahms, Schubert & Beethoven. The octet has also commissioned new works for octet from composers including Richard Mills, Paul Stanhope, Benjamin Martin, Graham Koehne and Douglas Weiland.
Following an inaugural series in 2014, Australian Octet has performed annually as a part of Melbourne Chamber Orchestra’s concert series as well as special performances at Port Fairy Spring Music Festival, Narkoojee Winery, Linden Art and regional centres including Daylesford, Geelong, Hamilton, Horsham, Mornington, Traralgon and Warrnambool.
