PASTORALE

  • Melbourne

Highlighting the warmth and beauty of the MCO sound.

One of the most iconic works, Barber’s Adagio for Strings lifts the lid on this musical jewellery box brimming with treasures.

A true hidden gem, Doreen Carwithen’s lush and lyrical Concerto for Piano and Strings was written in 1948, then sadly disregarded for many years. To our knowledge, this is the first chance Australian audiences will have to hear it. Melbourne pianist Aura Go is the perfect partner to introduce us to this music of great beauty.

The second half opens with Peter Sculthorpe’s final work, a serene melody that is rich in his iconic musical language, before we dive into one of the true highlights of the string orchestra repertoire, Tchaikovsky’s breathtaking Serenade for Strings.
