Attending A Concert

Attending Our Venues

Being COVIDSafe

Your health and wellbeing are important to us, so when attending performances, we:

  • Strongly recommend that you wear a fitted face mask, always practice good hand hygiene, and maintain physical distancing whenever possible, and
  • Ask that you make a reasonable assessment about your state of health and not attend if you feel unwell or have any Covid-19 symptoms.

Concert Duration

Orchestral concerts are about two hours in duration, including an interval.

Special projects and events may have different durations.

Don’t worry if you’re running late!

If you are running late to the performance, the staff will be able to admit you at a suitable break in the performance. This will be during a break for applause.

What to wear

Attending a concert is about your enjoyment of the experience of live music. Wear something you feel comfortable in, there’s no need to dress up, unless that’s your style!

Printed Programs

Programs contain more than just the list of music being performed. They also feature background information on the music and the artists. In Melbourne, programs are available by gold coin donation. You can also read the background notes for the concert on our website before a performance.

Applause!

One of the most frequently asked questions about attending an MCO concert is when to applaud. It’s not difficult to pick up the right time to clap—simply wait until all the musicians are standing (sometimes it’s only the cellos and bass that have been sitting).
