2017 Programs

In 2017, MCO will run regional orchestral workshops in Geelong, Mornington and Warragul, and a masterclass in Daylesford. The dates for these programs are:

Warragul Workshop

This year’s program is an orchestral workshop working with members of Melbourne Chamber Orchestra. Students will have the chance to be tutored on, rehearse and perform string orchestra works over an intensive day of activity. The program is designed to enhance young musicians’ confidence in, and enjoyment of, orchestral music-making.

Instruments: violin, viola, cello and double-bass
Level: AMEB Grade 3 or above
Age: up to 21 years of age
Number: capacity for up to 30 students

Cost

The 2017 fee for the workshop is $77 inc GST.

The cost of offering this program is many times greater than the student fees, and is generously supported by our partners: the Linnell/Hughes Trust, and the Rural Enhancement Endowment, managed by Perpetual; and St Pauls Grammar School. The program also depends for its success on in-kind assistance from facilitators, educational institutions and venues in the local area.

Geelong Workshop

This year’s program is an orchestral workshop working with members of Melbourne Chamber Orchestra. Students will have the chance to be tutored on, rehearse and perform string orchestra works over an intensive day of activity. Led by renowned violinist and educator William Hennessy, the program is designed to enhance young musicians’ confidence in, and enjoyment of, orchestral music-making.

The Geelong program is run in conjunction with Bay City Strings, a leading community youth music organisation. We will be working with around 70 students from Bay City Strings in this program. Members of Bay City Strings should contact their co-ordinator for further information about the program.

Students will have the chance to be tutored on, rehearse and perform string orchestra works over an intensive day of activity. Daylesford Violin Masterclass with Elinor Lea

Elinor Lea is currently the Associate Concertmaster of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and has held this position for 17 years. She frequently appears as Concertmaster and soloist with the TSO and performs regularly as a member of the Melbourne-based Melba String Quartet.

Requirements

Students should have attained at least AMEB Grade 3 and above.

Information

A piano will be available; students will need to engage their own accompanist at their own expense if desired.
Student registrations are $10.
Observers are free and attendance by teachers, parents and students of all levels is encouraged.
The masterclass precedes a performance by Melba Quartet at 4:30pm.

This masterclass is supported by Hepburn Shire Council, The Linnell/Hughes Trust and The Rural Enhancement Endowment, managed by Perpetual.
