2016 Annual Campaign

Sustaining Melbourne Music

Make your mark on music in Melbourne

Since 1991, Melbourne Chamber Orchestra’s musicians have created music with incredible passion and astonishing skill for the enjoyment of Victorian audiences. As Victoria’s leading professional chamber music organisation, the orchestra creates world-class concerts in Melbourne, tours the state extensively and works to develop a thriving future for the orchestral and chamber music sector in our state.

The community is really at the centre of MCO’s work—government granting covers only 5% of our operational costs. In a difficult environment, your support can sustain our vibrant state-wide program of performances and enable us to thrive.

Please give generously to support this year’s Campaign, through either a donation to support our most urgent needs, or in response to one of the key areas outlined in this brochure. Each gift makes a very real and tangible difference to our work and enables us to bring outstanding music to Victorians.

Guest artists and our music library are the giving focuses for our 2019 appeal.

Inspirational Guest Artists

Guest soloists, directors and conductors inject virtuosity and variety into MCO’s performances. We work with leading Australian soloists and occasionally international soloists. For a touring concert project with quality Australian guest artists, fees can exceed $20,000.

We need your support to bring this incredible artistry to our stage. There are two ways to support our Guest Musicians:

  • Become a member of our Soloists Circle. Circle Donors give a minimum of $3,000 for three years to support an aspect of the orchestra’s work.
  • Donate to support a guest artist in our 2019 program. Donors giving $1000 or more to support the engagement of a specific guest artist will be acknowledged in the printed program for that project’s Melbourne performances.

Resourcing the Music Library

We can’t perform without sheet music. Our new office provides us with the opportunity to properly organise and store our music library. The orchestra holds performing parts and scores for over 300 works, including a culturally significant Australian collection and unique items not held by any other Australian library.

Please help us to maintain these items and build the library for future use by MCO and by our colleague organisations. We are seeking support of $6000 to assist with purchasing resources such as a compactus, updated binding machine and supplies, archival supplies and sheet music purchases.
