Two seminal chamber music works with oboe and a Beethoven quartet to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth.
The penetrating sound of the oboe comes to the fore in two key chamber music works for the instrument. The Mozart Oboe quartet is an ebullient vehicle for virtuoso oboist Stephanie Dixon, alongside British composer Sir Arthur Bliss’ rarely-heard Quintet, written in his unique post-Romantic voice. In between, Beethoven’s visionary eleventh string quartet, in which the already-deaf composer explores new compositional directions, presages the famous late-period quartets.
