The essence of Mozart’s genius lies in its dual nature: its charming and seemingly effortless surface, and unfathomable layers of meaning and sophistication below. So it is with Mozart’s C major Quintet K515, brimming with some of Mozart’s most charming and recognisable melodies, while always revealing the unexpected and profound. A quintet of musicians from Melbourne Chamber Orchestra (with its Artistic Director William Hennessy AM) performs the Mozart, with the triumphant opening movement of Brahms’ second G major quintet as a fitting overture.
