A Feast of Music 2021 – Daylesford Chamber Music Festival

Join us at the heart of one of Australia’s most captivating regional destinations for a long weekend of extraordinary music and convivial hospitality. In our eighth festival, discover three chamber music performances, an orchestral concert and a musical dinner at the renowned Lake House.

(10 SEPTEMBER, FRI 6:00pm)

Daylesford Town Hall

An evening with the Goldner String Quartet is an appointment with Australia’s own chamber music royalty. Performing for over 25 years, the Goldners blend consummate craft and the deepest commitment to ensemble playing. In their delayed début at A Feast of Music, they perform a glorious recital of music by Schubert, Janaček and Tchaikovsky.

SCHUBERT Quartettsatz D703
JANAČEK String Quartet No 1 Kreutzer Sonata
TCHAIKOVSKY String Quartet No 1 Op 11

(11 SEPTEMBER, SAT 11:00am)

Daylesford Town Hall

A decadent double-bill of music for six strings. Korngold’s utterly virtuosic Sextet is a pièce de resistance of the repertoire, fusing the indulgent textures and melodies of Viennese Romanticism with his unique musical signatures. We’re performing it with a bubbly sextet by Louis Spohr, contemporary of Rossini & Mendelssohn.

SPOHR Sextet Op 140

(11 SEPTEMBER, SAT 2:30pm)

Daylesford Town Hall

By the time Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was 21 years old, he had written both the symphony and the piano concerto in this concert. Not to mention at least 27 other symphonies and eight other piano concertos! Aside from a youthful charm, their sophistication belies nothing of the age of the composer. Our homage to youthful works of Mozart is accompanied by a pert overture by Mozart’s contemporary Salieri, and Daylesford Music, a new work by Calvin Bowman commissioned by donors in Daylesford.

SALIERI Don Chisciotte: Overture
MOZART Piano Concerto in E flat major K271 Jeunehomme
BOWMAN Daylesford Music
MOZART Symphony No 28 in C major K200

(11 SEPTEMBER, SAT 6:30pm)

Lake House

Enjoy an intimate dining experience with chamber music, with the legendary hospitality of Daylesford’s Lake House and selected wines. In 2021, the Goldner Quartet join us for musical interludes. Numbers are strictly limited.

(12 SEPTEMBER, SUN 11:00am)

Daylesford Town Hall

A rare concert of music for the versatile combination of piano, violin, viola and cello. Enjoy Mozart’s first piano quartet in G minor and Robert Schumann’s cheeky and joyous quartet in E flat. MCO musicians are joined by Belarussian-born pianist Igor Machlak.
